Day Rhythm (Circadian Clock) is an app developed to help resync our mind & body to its natural state - when we were influenced by the solar patterns on Earth.
From a primal perspective, our bodies have evolved to carry out a specific sequence of functions (a natural rhythm) that are key throughout the day. This rhythm is based on the only dominant indicator of the days - which was the Sun.
In the modern world, we have tried to standardise and organise the hours/days/months. This does often conflict with the actual solar patterns, and in turn conflict with our natural rhythm. Which is why your 5am walk today, may not feel as rewarding as a 5am walk you had a few months (or even weeks) ago.
The Day Rhythm (Circadian Clock) app uses your physical location (from your device's GPS), to calculate the major solar timings of the day. It then calculates your body's circadian rhythm for the day, and shows you the timings of the key milestones for the day, in normal time.
Only the key milestone's are shown, allowing you to schedule your own routine, that brings you the most reward or happiness - which would vary according to the individual.
You can also choose other dates - to see the timings of those days, to plan ahead.
Personal Note from the Developer:
The idea for this app came about, when I first realised that there were some days where I generally felt good and positive, while some days I just felt drained and unmotivated. Broadly, I used to think this was linked to my morning routines - when I woke up, when I went for a morning walk, etc. Over time, I realised the timings I did my morning routine was a big factor too, and this was linked to when the sun rose that day.
I have actively avoided trying to give "tips" on what to do at what times of the day. I strongly believe that everyone has a different routine that works - some may be morning people, and some may be evening people. Some may like more physical activities in the routines, and some may one more cerebral. So this app would only show the key milestone timings for your body, but gives you the total freedom to plan your own routine that works around those key milestone timings.
The Circadian Clock is the main feature of the app. It's a constantly rotating dial, that shows what your body is going through at this current time.
The solar timings section shows the time that the sun will be in various positions throughout the selected day. We have always accepted that noon is 12pm, and midnight 12am. When in actual fact noon is just the mid-time between sunrise to sunset, while midnight is the mid-time between sunset to sunrise. This sections gives you the real timings for those.
- Start of Day (Midnight)
This the middle time, between the previous night's Sunset, and the selected day's Sunrise.
- Twilight Start
This is the time when the sun is 12° below the horizon. Between Twilight Start and Sunrise, the sky gets gradually brighter.
This is the time when the sun comes up above the horizon.
Note: It is almost impossible to predict the true visual sunrise time, because of refraction of light, through the air between you and the horizon. So although we do try to include some refraction index into our calculation, it's still a best attempt at an estimation.
- Solar Noon
This is the time when the sun is the middle position, between sunrise and sunset.
This is the time when the sun goes below the horizon.
Note: It is almost impossible to predict the true visual sunset time, because of refraction of light, through the air between you and the horizon. So although we do try to include some refraction index into our calculation, it's still a best attempt at an estimation.
- Twilight End
This is the time when the sun is 12° below the horizon. Between Sunset and Twilight End, the sky gets gradually darker.
- End of Day Midnight
This is the middle time, between the selected day's Sunset, and the next day's Sunrise.
Daylight / Sunlight Hours
This section gives a quick snapshot of the sun's current position in the day, and also the amount of sunlight and daylight that has passed, and is left, for the day.
This section is to give a quick snapshot for you to plan your timing of when best to sleep on the selected day, and also plan when best to wake up the next day.
This section shows you the key milestones for between true midnight & sunrise:
- Deepest Sleep
Sunrise to Solar Noon
This section shows you the key milestones for between sunrise & solar noon:
- Rise in Blood Pressure
- Melatonin Secretion Stops
- Bowel Movement Likely
- Highest Testosterone Secretion
- High Alertness
Solar Noon to Sunset
This section shows you the key milestones for between solar noon & sunset:
- Best Coordination
- Fastest Reaction Time
- Greatest Cardiovascular & Muscle Strength
This section shows you the key milestones for between sunset & true midnight:
- Highest Blood Pressure
- Highest Body Temperature
- Melatonin Secretion Starts
- Bowel Movement Suppressed
