From a primal perspective, our bodies have evolved to carry out a specific sequence of functions (a natural rhythm) that are key throughout the day. This rhythm is based on the only dominant indicator of the days - which was the Sun.

In the modern world, we have tried to standardise and organise the hours/days/months. This does often conflict with the actual solar patterns, and in turn conflict with our natural rhythm. Which is why your 5am walk today, may not feel as rewarding as a 5am walk you had a few months (or even weeks) ago.

The Solar Circadian Clock app uses your physical location (from your device's GPS), to calculate the major solar timings of the day. It then calculates your body's circadian rhythm for the day, and shows you the timings of the key milestones for the day, in normal time.

Only the key milestone's are shown, allowing you to schedule your own routine, that brings you the most reward or happiness - which would vary according to the individual.

You can also choose other dates - to see the timings of those days, to plan ahead.

Personal Note from the Developer:

The idea for this app came about, when I first realised that there were some days where I generally felt good and positive, while some days I just felt drained and unmotivated. Broadly, I used to think this was linked to my morning routines - when I woke up, when I went for a morning walk, etc. Over time, I realised the timings I did my morning routine was a big factor too, and this was linked to when the sun rose that day.

I have actively avoided trying to give "tips" on what to do at what times of the day. I strongly believe that everyone has a different routine that works - some may be morning people, and some may be evening people. Some may like more physical activities in the routines, and some may one more cerebral. So this app would only show the key milestone timings for your body, but gives you the total freedom to plan your own routine that works around those key milestone timings.

Solar Clock

The Main Solar Clock section shows a few key solar timings for Today that can easily be viewed from any screen by sliding the screen down.

Solar Clock

The Solar Clock is the main feature, which is constantly on display. It is a relative clock, that displays a relative time according to the solar timings of the day:

  • 12:00 AM - Solar Midnight
  • 06:00 AM - Sunrise
  • 12:00 PM - Solar Noon
  • 06:00 PM - Sunset

This clock ticks faster or slower against the actual time, giving you a visual sensation of the speed of the day (e.g. A shorter solar day would see the clock ticking faster).

Sun Position Ring

The outermost ring shows the current position of the sun, as a sun icon - rising from the left, and setting to the right. The sun icon will be displayed in different colours depending on the time of day.

  • Yellow - Daytime (Between Sunrise and Sunset)
  • Red - At Dawn and Dusk
  • Black - Night time

Melatonin Ring

The Melatonin Ring indicates the period when your body is producing melatonin. It is indicated against the hour hand of the Solar Clock.
